There is at least one, perhaps two, and
possibly more unusual , probably vanity pressed 10" LP's
by Bourbon. The photos on both of these covers are similar to
those on the UTC albumsnamely UTC 2 and 6and it may
be these, rather than (or in addition to) the UTC LP's that were
mastered by Fernando Vargas at Variety Recording Studios in New
York.
Yes,
It Is Ray Bourbon (New Bourbon Records V-5387-1/-2)
Pressed in red vinyl, this rare disc is known in two versions. In one, both sides of a blank label are hand-signed by Bourbon and feature a "before" or "after" cartoonpresumably also by Bourbonof male and female genitalia. (While this visual pun suggests that it was made around the time of his 1956 sex-change stunt, references on the LP itself suggest a date of ca. 1953.) The second version is labeled NEW BOURBON RECORDS with A side "Ray Bourbon in The First Show", matrix number V- 5387-1 and B side "Ray Bourbon in The Second Show", matrix number V-5387-2. The record contains a live performance with versions of "Gigolo", "New Neighbor", "Horse Opera" and "Ugh!". The title and cover photo suggest that UTC 2 (which is subtitled "It's Me Again") was intended as a sequel of sorts, although they are stylistically quite dissimilar.
Also extant is the cover sleeve only of a 10" recordwhich may have contained a 78 rpm, but more likely a 10" LPentitled "Mid-Nite With Ray Bourbon". The single known cover is autographed (as is one known copy of "Yes, It Is Ray Bourbon") and does appear to have actually contained a record, rather than being some sort of "test" cover. Whether it was an alternate cover to the above, some other known record, or something else entirely, remains a mystery.
