MISCELLANEOUS AND
PROBLEMATIC RECORDINGS
There are several 78 rpm recordings, definitely
attributable to Bourbon, whose origins remains obscure. Most of
these are on blank label discs.
First, there
is a series of unnumbered, blank, white label 78's with "X"
prefixed runoff numbers. Given the "X" prefixes which
appear on the Imperial label, and the gaps in numbering of that
label's reported discs, it is likely that these first appeared
there.:
- Russian Refugee [X 019]
- Tennis Champ [X 020]
-
- The Trial of Carrie P. Potts, part 1
[X 021]
- The Trial of Carrie P. Potts, part 2
[X 022]
-
- Shanghai Flo [X 025]
- Singapore Lily [X 026]
Almost certainly
part of this series is :
- Strip Tease Queen [X 024]
- -"Strip Tease Queen" also
appears on the Hollywood Hot Shots label with the X024 matrix
number, indicating it was probably recorded by the late 30's.
There is also an unusual untitled, anonymous
release which appears in at least two distinct pressings:
- [You've Got To Feel That Thing Yourself]
[BD-1]/[003]
- [Haggerty's] [BD-2]/[004]
- -"Haggerty's" is truncated
in both instances to fit onto a 10" disc, indicating it
was originally a 12" release. Also, "Three Guesses"
is a chattier version of the tune released on Imperial 103 B.
-
- There is an
uncredited song on the Party Novelty's [sic] label that is unquestionsably
by Bourbon. Since all known releases on this label are reissues
of Western Record Company/Bourbana releases, it seems likely
that this is a redub of "Navy Day For Tessie", but
until an original copy can be obtained for comparison, this identification
must be regarded as tentative:
-
- I Think I'll Join The Navy (Party Novelty's
[sic] 58 B)
- -?redub
of "Navy Day For Tessie" (Western Record Co./Bourbana
WR-715 A)
-
- Finally, there is an uncredited release
on the Party Record label. "Air Raid Warden" suggests
a wartime date, and therefore probably represents yet another
unidentified Imperial recording.
