PRIVATE RECORDING, ca. 1965

Recorded at a private party in New Orleans by Jack D. Nelson, there exists a 15 minute tape of Bourbon performing impromptu. Never pressed or released, the tape contains variations of Bourbon's popular telephone monologue and another intrigue with the couthless couple from the trilogy on UTC 3.

Nelson, who died in 1996, recalls the circumstances of the recording in a 1995 letter: "I remember the evening clearly, including the fact that we almost didn't do it at all. When it was established that we were going to do it, I had to run home, get the recorder and get back to the party before the mood was lost. As it was we only had time for a brief effort, about 15 minutes, because Rae had a show to do and had to leave."

Bourbon is considerably more "blue" here than on his party records, and this rare candid glimpse of Bourbon-at one point becomes impatient about his upcoming show-may well represent his last recording.
